Character Blog on Scout
Scout is the main character in the story To Kill a Mockingbird. She is a six year old girl who lives in Maycomb with her brother Jem, her father Atticus, and the housekeeper Calpurnia. Though she is a girl she tries in every way not to be. She wears overalls and tries to beat up people to make herself look tough. Her two best friends are her brother Jem and Dill, the neighbor boy who is only there in the summer. Her brother seems to be embarrassed to hang out with Scout during school but when they get home they are inseparable. This character reminds me of myself in many ways. The first way was how she is a tomboy. When I was in elementary school, I was a big time tomboy. I always wanted to hang out with the guys instead of the girls. I played soccer out in the field with he boys while the girls sat in a circle and talked. I was not afraid to get dirty or hurt. When a boy would come towards me with the ball I would hit their leg with my shin to get the ball away and so I always had bruises all over my legs. But I didn’t care because I thought it made me look tough. Scout also beats up other students to make herself look tough. Since Scout is the main charater in the story I think that she has the more significance than anyone. The entire story pretty much follows her footsteps through Maycomb and tells what events happens to her. What motivates her to do the things that she does is her brother. Her brother is her biggest influence and she follows him wherever he goes. If he’s doing something that he is not supposed to be doing you know that Scout is right there along with him.
