Well I actually seem to like blogging though I didn’t much like it at the beginning of the year. I like blogging about our reactions to chapters in the book. It gives you a chance to state your opinion on the matter and let other people see it and comment on it. Blogging is also cool because you get to work with computers every day. It’s also an easy way to get points. I hate doing worksheets and things like that I would much rather do this. My favorite thing that I blogged about this year was the book the old man and the sea. You never knew what was going to happen so when you would write about a chapter in a blog and then read what happened in the next chapter it was kinda cool to compare them and go back and read them.
At the beginning of chapter 12 it talks about how Culpurnia takes Scou and Jem to church. Though they had gone to church many times before this was Calpurnia’s church so it was all black people. Scout and Jem felt out of place a first because of a lady who said that they shouldn’t be there. But later the reverend said that they were always welcome. When I first went to church with my cousin I felt out of place because I didnt know anyone but they soon made me feel welcome. Another is when their Aunt Alexendra was sitting on their porch when they got back from church like she had lived there all her life

While reading I do a couple things to help pick out important passages. I usually just look at the passages that stand out. Like one of my important passages was when Atticus says how it took a nine year old o bring a group of people of their senses. Thats important because its interesting to think abou how a childs innocence and love can show a group of angry people that their over reacting. I also just pick out passages that probably have more meaning to them hen what is said.

I thought that the end of the book was pretty good. I was shocked to find out that Mr. Ewall tried to kill scout and Jem. On page 267 i says “Somehow, I could think of nothing but Mr. Bob Ewell saying he’d get Atticus if it took him the rest of his life. Mr. Ewell almost go him and it was the last thing he did.” Its also funny to think that Boo Radley, someone who had never even been seen by Jem or Scout, saved their lives. But throughout the book, Boo helped them out many times. Like during the fire Boo was he one who put the blanket around Scout she just didn’t know it. And he left all of the differant things in the tree for them. My final reaction to the book is that is was good if you could pay attention long enough o get to the good parts. Well worth the wait though.

My opinion on the trial with Tom Robinson was that it was completely unfair. Of coarse I am sure that anyone who has read this has the same exact opinion on the matter. All of the evidence that Mr. Ewall presented was completely false and that entire courtroom knew that. To start off, when Mr. Tate first got up on the stand he was certain that Bob Ewall and Mayella were telling the truth. But as the case carried on it became clear to him that it was a lie. He realized this when Atticus pointed out that Mayella had been all beaten up on only one side of her body. Tom Robinsons arm was crippled on that side and couldn’t have possibly hit her. But the court obviously didn’t even want to hear about it. Tom Robinson tells the jury exactly what happens but it was like he didn’t say anything because the jury didn’t listen to any of it. In the end he was found guilty and was sent to jail. I perfectly innocent man with a large family had to go to jail because he was black. That’s the only reason because the Ewalls were known as trash and if they had accused a white person of doing it it would have never gone to court.

Why does Atticus keep defending the black man, when he knows he isnt going to win? Maybe he just thinks that everyone deserves a chance.
The title comes into play when Atticus says “Its a sin to kill a mockingbird.” Because they are innocent and all they do is make music. Why is this the title of the story and what does it have to do with anything?? Its weird how Attics is this big laywer and some people think highly of him, and now he held a secret from his kids about his gun skills, which he doesnt seem so proud of. Why? Why did Miss. Maudie ask the children if they thought their dad couldn’t do anything? When obviously they respect him. When Scout and Jem say they hate Mrs. Dubose, becase she interrogates them… Maybe she is hiding something. I like how Atticus stands up for himself and addresses that he does inface car for black people, even if others in the town find that wrong.. including his own kids.

The first event that I recollect would have to be the beginning of school again. Scout started the second grade. After school I started to ell her about that night when I went back for my pants. I told her how they had been sewed up. I don’t know who sewed them up nor do I know why. All I know is that someone knew that I was coming back o get them. As we continued to walk home we found a ball of twine in the knothole. We decided that it might be somebody’s hiding place so we left it. But after awhile no one had picked it up. We then decided that everything in the hole was ours. The next things that we had found were two small pieces of soap that had been carved into a boy and a girl. When we examined them more we found that they resembled us. We then decided to right a letter to the person who always leaves us these objects. We left the letter in the hole but the next day it was filled with concrete. We still don’t know why. The next event that I remember was that Mrs. Radley had died. No one seemed to care much though because people rarely saw her. We got our first snow ever this winter. It scared Scout because she thought that the world was ending. Scout and I then built our very first snowman. Since there was not a lot of snow I used earth to help make it. That night Mrs. Muadie’s house caught on fire. Atticus made us stand over by Mr. Radley’s house so that we were out of the way. We stood outside all night watching Mrs. Muadie’s house burn down to nothing. By morning the fire was completely out. We went inside to eat breakfast. Atticus noticed that Scout had a blanket around her and asked her where she had gotten it. She couldn’t remember and neither could I. Atticus said that it was probably Boo Radley himself.

We had alot of questions and observations. Why doesn’t Mrs. Maudie really care that her house burnt down? … She might just be trying to make the best of it. Even though she knows she lost a lot of stuff… she tries to look on the positive side of it. Why does Uncle Jack think he was too strict… was it because he doesn’t have children of his own? Why doesn’t he have children? Why did Boo Radley fix Jem’s pants? Since everyone makes him seem like a bad person why is he helping out with things?

There were quite a few symbols that our group discussed. Most of these though we could not figure out what they might stand for. Mr. Radleys house was a big one. Its mentioned alot in the story. Also all of the things that were left in the tree. Each one has to be significant in some way or another. Some of the people like Boo Radley seem to be a symbol also.

Character Blog on Scout
Scout is the main character in the story To Kill a Mockingbird. She is a six year old girl who lives in Maycomb with her brother Jem, her father Atticus, and the housekeeper Calpurnia. Though she is a girl she tries in every way not to be. She wears overalls and tries to beat up people to make herself look tough. Her two best friends are her brother Jem and Dill, the neighbor boy who is only there in the summer. Her brother seems to be embarrassed to hang out with Scout during school but when they get home they are inseparable. This character reminds me of myself in many ways. The first way was how she is a tomboy. When I was in elementary school, I was a big time tomboy. I always wanted to hang out with the guys instead of the girls. I played soccer out in the field with he boys while the girls sat in a circle and talked. I was not afraid to get dirty or hurt. When a boy would come towards me with the ball I would hit their leg with my shin to get the ball away and so I always had bruises all over my legs. But I didn’t care because I thought it made me look tough. Scout also beats up other students to make herself look tough. Since Scout is the main charater in the story I think that she has the more significance than anyone. The entire story pretty much follows her footsteps through Maycomb and tells what events happens to her. What motivates her to do the things that she does is her brother. Her brother is her biggest influence and she follows him wherever he goes. If he’s doing something that he is not supposed to be doing you know that Scout is right there along with him.
